    Canon Character Section:
    History:
All of the first born children of the Fujisaki family must spend the first ten (approximately) years living as the opposite gender, to learn all the dances one can learn for that gender, then spend a year or two abroad learning that gender’s dances, then transitioning to his or her natural gender, learning some foreign dances abroad, then returning home as the proper gender/persona.
Nagihiko lived as a girl, Nadeshiko, until the age of 11, going to Seiyo Acadamy. During that span of time, Nadeshiko bore a single egg, her heart’s egg, and in time that egg hatched into Tamari. She wound up on the Guardian’s council, taking the Queen’s chair,;helping students along with King’s chair – Tadase, Jack’s chair – Kukai, and the Ace chair – Yaya.
The Guardians are more than just a student council to see to paperwork and student moral. All of the Guardians have Shugo Charas, small beings that are the personification of who they want to be, hatched out of their hearts’ eggs. Nadeshiko, wanting to pull off being a graceful young girl hatched from her egg Tamari, a Kimono clad chara who never wants to get dirty. But as part of her desperately wants to still be able to protect those she loves, Tamari has a somewhat violent side that shows when a friend is in danger.
Then one day they found a girl with three hearts’ eggs. Amu Hinamori. Nadeshiko was charged with making sure that Amu joined the Guardians, as the Joker. For it is the job of the council to protect the hearts eggs of all children, and there are legends that the Joker, a child with three Guardian Charas will be the one to master the Humpty Lock, and not only save the children, but also find the Embryo.
The Embryo is a mysterious egg that is said to have the power to grant wishes, and the Guardians wanted that… because Tadase’s wish is to take over the world. Nadeshiko and his other friends go along with it because “It seems like fun!”
Of course, they’re not the only ones after the Embryo. An evil organization called Easter also wants the Embryo for their own nefarious designs. Following Amu’s lead as Joker, Nadeshiko and their other friends used the power in their hearts, with their Shugo Charas to save the hearts’ eggs of children all over the area, while racing for the Emryo.
Naeshiko stayed until she was 11, becoming best friends with Amu. She didn’t want to leave. But she had to. She didn’t want to see Amu’s face, so she didn’t tell her she was leaving. She did, however, “meet” her as her true self, Nagihiko.
Nagihiko was the one who came back, enrolling in Seiyo. The Chairman made him inform Tadase and the recently graduated Kukai about the truth, which lead to them asking how it felt to wear a skirt… which led to him quite happily forcing them into girls uniforms.
But… Tamari had retreated to her egg… and a new egg had been born, a blue twin to Tamari’s pink… but it didn’t hatch. Nagihiko kept going out to help the others against the batsutamas and the Nozutamas (x-eggs and ?-eggs), even though he could not transform, he earned his place by being what Tadase should be, a leader and a strategist.
However, with Tamari asleep, and the other egg unhatched, the rest of the time, Nagihiko tends to be quieter, letting the others do the talking and taking the lead in activities. We see hints of a stronger personality here and there, hints of being trollish, and a warmth that was shared with his “twin”.

    Personality:
Nadeshiko/Nagihiko very specifically, and in some cases intentionally, has multiple personalities. Approximately four distinct personalities. Two for the female form – Nadeshiko, and two for the male form.

Nadeshiko Fujisaki is the female form. Nagihiko spent most of his life to date playing the role of Nadeshiko, to the point where sometimes she is the more comfortable and natural feeling skin. Nadeshiko is generally perky, sweet, kind, helpful, and almost painfully optimistic. She is the one who will smile brightly when everyone else is freaking out, and offer you tea when you’re feeling low.

Nadeshiko loves to help others and to show how sweet she is. She bakes and dances, but gives everything she is, gives her all for her friends. The people who matter most to her matter most to her, bar none.

She is a hard worker. From the paperwork that is the official face of Guardian business, to the real work the Guardians do – putting their lives on the line to protect the hearts and dreams of children, to her dancing. Everything she does, she works hard at, and she only takes breaks for the sake of her friends.

Nadeshiko, however, is also secretly something of a troll. She is willing to use that trollishness to help her friends and fulfill assignments. She also will be a troll just to amuse herself, however. Like sneaking up behind Amu to blow in her ear… or like trying to convince Amu to join the guardians by bribing her with secret pictures of Tadase, knowing that Amu has a massive crush on her friend and leader. I also suspect that Nadeshiko kind of took a perverse joy in fooling them all for so long, so thoroughly.

Nadeshiko’s other personality comes into play when Temari is around. Temari is the “who she wants to be. Temari is elegant, reserved, and generally calm. Nothing should ever dare to mess up her Kimono. However… Who Nadeshiko wants to be is a proper, refined, young lady… who can still protect her friends. So sometimes when her friends are threatened, she takes on that aspect of Temari, and anyone who can see Shugo Charas will see both Nadeshiko and Temari get stars in their eyes, and the hair decoration in Nadeshiko’s hair change as she gains the courage, skill, and weaponry – a naginata - to defend her friends.

Oddly, this also comes out sometimes when she is challenged to a completion, mostly when challenged by her friend Kukai. This happens rarely, and wont happen until she has her Chara back at Agentmas, but should be noted.

The rest of the time, Nadeshiko is a bright energetic young girl who seems to be striving to be an elegant young woman, works hard, and puts her friends first. With a hint of somewhat hidden impishness.

Nagihiko, on the other hand… is trying to find himself. With his chara, Rhythm, he is more open, energetic, and athletic, but from the canon point I am taking him from, Rhythm has not yet hatched, so he does not yet know who he will be. I presume Teleios will also change him in that time, so I hesitate to expand on that too much, and look forward to how he will evolve.

Without Rhythm, however, Nagihiko is very different than Nadeshiko, his so-called twin sister. He is quieter and more reserved than even Temari, but not out of an old fashioned concept of what a proper Japanese woman should be, but because he isn’t yet sure how to react, who he should yet be. He’s also afraid of slipping up and revealing that he actually is Nadeshiko, which he almost does a few times.

Before he rejoined the school, he was a bit more open as Nagihiko. He loves basketball, and even flirted briefly with Amu before Nadeshiko flew off to study abroad. He is more open with the few who know his secret, and I think we get more of a glimpse of who he will be, in those moments…. Like when Kukai and Tadase ask him what it was like wearing a skirt, so he physically forces them both into the girls’ uniform of Seiyo Academy.

Also… As Nadeshiko, she was the Queen’s chair and had the Queen’s responsibilities. As Nagihiko, he is filling the Jack’s chair, which had been held first by Kukai, and then by Kairi, and Kukai and Tadase try to convince him that the Jack’s job is to wait on the King (Tadase) hand and foot, he goes along with it for just a short while, and then makes it quite clear just how far he is willing to be pushed with overt and fake obsequiousness and helpfulness that was anything but.

Nagihiko is the only Guardian to not have a Shugo Chara, since he has Temari and Rhythm’s eggs, but Temari has gone back to sleep, and the other egg has never hatched. This naturally creates some awkwardness and a feeling of insecurity, however Rima, the current Queen, takes an instant dislike to Nagihiko, and her pushing at him over his not having a chara pushes him into defending his place there, into defending himself, giving him confidence, rather than pulling him further down.

He proves himself to be a good leader, despite being the Jack, and to have a real head for strategy. Not able to join the battle himself, he stays on the field, and calls orders to them, and when Rima refuses to listen and almost gets herself killed, Nagihiko shoves her out of the way, taking a glancing blow himself. In more than one occasion. Nagihiko is brave and self sacrificing. Where Nadeshiko would do anything for her friends, Nagihiko will go that far for those who hate him as well.

Nagihiko spends a lot of time seeming like he wants to hide - to hide behind the other Guardians, to hide behind the role of Nadeshiko, to hide behind this excuse or that excuse, and uses all his bravery for others. For the sake of other people. For himself he seems almost… timid. But as the series goes, he does start to come out of his shell more and more, even before the egg hatches. Getting dropped into another world, however, may undo some of that in the short term.

He will probably tell people his “twin” arrived in Teleios once he has his feet under him, because he will want to hide behind Nadeshiko’s more effervescent outgoing personality.

    Powers/Abilities:
His powers and abilities will return with Agentmas and the hatching of his charas. Without them, he’s a dancer, and actor, and an effective cross dresser, but none of those are magical abilities. He can see other people’s charas and all related things (such as the changes that indicate character change, the effects of Nozu-charas, nozu and batsu charas and eggs)

Once the Charas are in play Nade/Nagi will have additional abilities:
The charas themselves – a hand-span high, they have all the strength you’d expect from humans that size. They can fly/float but there are limits to them. They can’t be seen by everyone, but what they do can. They can summon small items that don’t matter much in the long run. (Daisuki summons a soccer ball when he’s bored, for example)
The charas can sort of sense other charas. Sometimes. It works unreliably. Likewise they can sometimes communicate with animals. The more it needs to happen, the less likely it will work. (Yoru being an exception)

Chara-change – anyone who can see the charas can see the physical indicator of a chara change. For Nadeshiko/Tamari it is a change in her hair clips and eyes. In Nagihiko/Rhythm it is a pair of DJ ports around his neck. These things grant them a personality boost, and in Nadeshiko’s case, a naginata and a burst of strength.
Chara-changes can be initiated by the Guardian or the Chara.

Chara-nari – Transformation – not applicable unless someone apps and gets accepted with Amu Hinamori, because the Humpty Lock is required for Charanari, and neither as Nadeshiko nor as Nagihiko would he/she ever even dream of taking that power away from Amu, leaving her defenseless. This also cannot happen before the charas hatch.

    Appearance:
    Nadeshiko Fujisaki
As Nadeshiko she comes across as a feminine girl who likes tall boots and skirts. She walks with a light grace, and tends towards holding hands behind her back, and leaning forward. She skips as often as she walks. Her hair is always up in a high ponytail with a decorated ribbon.
    Nagihiko Fujisaki
As Nagi, he tends towards hands on hips, hands in fists, and a straight gait walk. If anything he seems more an athlete than a dancer from the way he moves. His hair is always down, and he tends towards standing straight or leaning to one side, rather than leaning forward or back.

    Tamari, Rhythm, and a friend.

    Nadeshiko
[A female voice sounded to everyone she met through the bracelets, three at a time.]
“Hello, this is Nadeshiko! I was thinking of opening a dance studio here in town and wanted to know who would be interested! So if you’re going to come and dance, I need students and teachers both! I’ll be in the temple, waiting! Don’t be late! Tell your friends, okay!”

    Nagihiko
[A male voice, quiet, through the bracelets]
“Look, my sister… She… wants dresses. Like… lots of them. Girly things. And.. I lost a bet. So. Yeah. The name is Nagihiko and I officially have to ask for dresses. Anything that would fit a 12 year old girl who could stand to lose some weig…OW! NADESHIKO!”

    Prose Sample:
    Nadeshiko:

She sat seiza style on the floor of their room, staring at the small pink egg in her hands. “I keep trying to be who you were born for me to be, Tamari,” she said softly, lifting the egg to her lips and kissing it gently. “I can still hear your voice in my head, see your sweet smile. Please… wake up. I miss you…” she closed her eyes and rested the egg against her forehead. “It’s so different here. No other Guardians, no other charas… “

She sighed and put the small egg back into the pocket of her capelet. Her fingers brushed the other egg there, but even alone, she gave no outward sign. She sighed and stood. “You awoke to a dream of dance,” she whispered. “So let us dance.”

She lifted a small folding fan she had procured from one of the others who generally shared this room, closed her eyes and centered herself, then, as though she were in a full kimono, as though she were home… she began the slow graceful motions of a traditional Japanese dance.

    Nagihiko:
Okay, well… this stunk. No Charas, no Guardians…

He probably shouldn’t have brought Nadeshiko here… but… she had more experience dealing with other people than he did. That’s why when he found out about arrival scheduals, and all of that… he had made sure to have his own place by then and… told everyone his twin sister had arrived.

Some people just reacted better to a pretty face if it belonged to a cute girl in a short skirt than they did to him. He looked like a thug. Nadeshiko looked like a precious flower.

The one place he could have been fully free of her… but he brought her here. He… needed her.

He pulled the two eggs from the pockets of his Guardian cape. All the capes had egg pockets, because all the Guardians were chara bearers. He didn’t hide them, almost hoping someone would see the twin eggs, because only other chara bearers could see them. He’d have to claim he stole Nadeshiko’s egg, of course, but even being likened to Ikuto would be worth it… to feel less alone…

“Hatch,” he whispered to the blue egg. “I’m waiting to meet you.”
